20-minute doors
20-minute fire doors.
The most common rated door in hotels, apartments, offices and schools: corridor and entry doors in fire partitions and smoke barriers.
- Tested to UL 10C without hose stream, typically with S-label
- Particleboard or composite core, 1-3/4 inch
- Veneer, paint-grade or laminate faces
Where 20-minute doors are used
- Guestroom entry doors from hotel corridors
- Apartment entry doors from common corridors
- Corridor doors in offices, schools and healthcare
- Doors in smoke barriers, together with smoke and draft control
What makes them pass
- Positive-pressure listing with the edge seals the listing names
- Self-closing and positive-latching hardware
- Smoke gasketing for the S-label, installed per NFPA 105
- Vision panels only with glass marked D-20, up to the size tested
How we supply rated doors
- Every fire-rated door we supply is built and labeled by a manufacturer that holds the listing for that door with a nationally recognized testing laboratory, such as UL or Intertek (Warnock Hersey), and is inspected under the lab's follow-up service.
- The label is applied at the factory. We never apply, move or replace fire labels, and we do not field-label.
- We take your door schedule and hardware schedule, check each opening against the listing, and have doors factory-machined for your hinges, locks, closers and electrified hardware.
- Matching non-rated doors in the same veneer, paint or laminate come from the same order, so a corridor looks the same whether a door is rated or not.
- Documentation for submittals and closeout: listing references, label type per opening, hardware compatibility and installation instructions.
Questions
Frequently asked.
Do 20-minute doors need a closer?
Yes. Fire doors must be self-closing or automatic-closing and positive-latching. Guestroom and apartment entry doors therefore get a closer and a latching lock.
Is a 1-3/4 inch solid core door the same as a 20-minute door?
No. Only a door listed and labeled as a 20-minute fire door counts, even if a solid core door looks the same.
Can 20-minute doors have glass?
Yes, with fire-rated glazing marked D-20 in a listed lite kit, up to the maximum size the listing allows.
