Acoustic doors

Acoustic doors with tested STC.

Doors with a sound transmission class tested as an assembly, for hotel rooms, apartments, meeting rooms, practice rooms and studios.

  • STC tested to ASTM E90 and rated to ASTM E413
  • Perimeter seals and automatic door bottoms
  • Can be combined with a fire rating

Why the assembly counts

  • The door leaf is one part; seals, threshold and frame decide what is reached in the building
  • Undercuts and open gaps cancel out a heavy door
  • Automatic door bottoms seal without a raised threshold
  • Brand standards for hotels often name a minimum STC for entry and connecting doors

Where we supply them

  • Hotel guestroom entry and connecting doors
  • Apartment entry doors
  • Offices, meeting and conference rooms
  • Schools, music and practice rooms, studios

How we supply rated doors

  • Every fire-rated door we supply is built and labeled by a manufacturer that holds the listing for that door with a nationally recognized testing laboratory, such as UL or Intertek (Warnock Hersey), and is inspected under the lab's follow-up service.
  • The label is applied at the factory. We never apply, move or replace fire labels, and we do not field-label.
  • We take your door schedule and hardware schedule, check each opening against the listing, and have doors factory-machined for your hinges, locks, closers and electrified hardware.
  • Matching non-rated doors in the same veneer, paint or laminate come from the same order, so a corridor looks the same whether a door is rated or not.
  • Documentation for submittals and closeout: listing references, label type per opening, hardware compatibility and installation instructions.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Can a door be fire-rated and acoustic?

Yes. Many acoustic doors are also listed at 20 to 90 minutes. Seals and door bottoms must then be listed for the fire door too.

Which STC do I need?

That depends on the brand standard, the specification or the client. Tell us the target and we match a tested assembly to it.

What about the frame?

The frame and its seal pocket are part of the tested assembly. We coordinate the frame type with the door listing.

Code summary for orientation, based on the International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 80, NFPA 105 and the 2010 ADA Standards. Requirements depend on the code edition your jurisdiction has adopted and on local amendments. The architect of record and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) decide for your project.
